This past December we held our annual "La Amistad" seniors luncheon. As you can see we had a good turn out. Again, thanks to our chapter members for their support. The food was provided by our members and Dario Lopez provided our music. Gleaners provided food boxes that went out to each senior. We also had small gifts for the seniors. Special thanks to Lorenzo and Oscar for all their help and for all involved in making this a successful event.
October of 2009 we held our annual Cesar Chavez street cleanup along portions of Cesar Chavez Ave. in Pontiac, Mi. We had many volunteers. Each year we honor an individual or an organization who exemplifies hard work, dedication or support in the community. The Azteca boxing club of Pontiac has help our youth for years by teaching them the importance of a good education while giving them an avenue to learn a sport and responsibility. This year, because of his years of dedication, hard work, and service to the community and as the Director of the Azteca Enrichment Youth Organization, our Cesar E. Chavez Humanitarian Award goes to Robert "Chappy" Paramo. Thank you for your commitment to our youth and good luck and continued success in the future.
July 2009 we sponsored our 18th Annual Student Scholarship Award Night. We had 8 students who received $800.00 each this year. Our keynote speaker was Jennifer Nathan representing Congressman Gary Peters of the 9th District of Michigan. The dinner was donated by the members of our local chapter. It was good night. Pictured above with President Lorenzo Rivera and Vice President David Mora are students, not in any order, Andrew Carpenter, Orlando Castro Jr., Jeremiah A. Hargett, James Martinez, John Martinez, Lorena Reyes, Ana Rodriguez, and Maxwell Z. Torres. Each year we try to out do the previous year, some years we have been able to raise more funds than others. Hopefully this years event can be as good or better than in years past. Thank you to all those who contribute their time and energy to help make this event a success.
